Sold! Now what?

August 22, 2022

Our house was on the market less than a week. First offer on day 1, but too low. Second offer on day 5, everything we wanted….including not closing for 30 days plus 30 more days to keep possession post closing. PERFECT! More time to get the infrastructure done on the land, barn up and buy an RV! Let’s Go! We got this!

We’ve been waiting three weeks on a soil test from the new land that is necessary prior to determining what type of septic system is required per state regulations. Doesn’t that seem backwards? Isn’t it more logically to need a soil test after all the sh*t is being randomly spread into my future backyard?

There seems to be a lot of focus on sh*tting in my blog so my apologies if you are easily offended. But I found myself suggesting to Greg that we get a Port a Potty delivered to the land in case the septic isn’t finished prior to our move date. I’ve probably used a Port a Potty less than a dozen times in my life and most while completely inebriated at a concert or sporting event. And yet I am suggesting this is a good idea?? Who am I? I’m a realist, so it might be necessary.

Greg has once again stepped up to be the bigger person and agreed to be the lucky one to dump the RV “black water tank” if we aren’t hooked up to the septic at the move date. 30 days ago I wouldn’t have known anything about the different levels of tanks for an RV. You have the Clean Tank….potable clean water. Then there is the Grey Tank….water from the sinks in the bathroom and kitchen. Then the Black Tank….the one from the toilet. What an educational experience this is!

The other education we are getting is how completely difficult it is to navigate the permit process. We need a permit for the pole barn, one for the septic, one for the house, one for the temporary RV, one for the driveway and the list goes on. And they all seem to be dependent on one another. Can’t get the pole barn without the house permit. Can’t get either without the septic. Still don’t have that damn soil test from Purdue which is holding up everything! Any Purdue alums out there that can move that along for us?
