House is on the market

August 7, 2022

We have listed our house of 22 years. It’s a week late but we got it done. We had a well thought out plan to make it go smoothly…..dogs in the kennel for the first five days of potential showings, deep clean of house done, our to do lists complete! That plan was squashed like a bug as soon as the delay started. And to add complexity, Bexley, one of our Shepards, has an injury that has her hobbling around, and a vet visit Saturday which is turning into a specialists visit on Monday.

Great news is that we listed last evening and immediately had a showing for first thing this morning. And as morning arrives, several others schedule for the afternoon. Excellent….except Jenna wakes me up a little before 7am and says “I need your help upstairs, Kasha (the youngest Shepard) sh*t all over the playroom”. Of course she did!

So for the first showing, we loaded up the two dogs and successfully trapped the cat in her travel carrier…let me tell you, that’s no small feat. We drove down to the new land and back to waste the hour. One down! Unfortunately we knew the rest of the afternoon would prove to be more difficult. There are multiple showings back to back all afternoon, so having the animals couped up in the car for four or five hours isn’t an option. What happened to our great laid plan?!

Greg suggests maybe a hotel that allows pets and promptly makes a reservation. We arrive, animals in tow. Greg goes to check in and quickly finds they don’t take pets. The reservation desk located somewhere overseas is obviously mistaken on the local Indiana pet policy. Wonderful. Ok we pivot and find another one who takes pets. Ahhh, a Woodspring Suites. They allow two pets under 80 pounds. Kasha, suck it in so you appear less than 80 pounds! Never heard of Woodspring Suites but they are right across the street from the other hotel. TripAdvisor rates it a 4 out of 5 stars. Wonderful!!

Have you ever stayed at a Woodspring Suites? I’m taking bets that it’s a no for EVERY person reading this. Let’s just say there really isn’t a lobby, just a window. I ask if they allow pets and have something we could check into immediately. The nice lady behind the window says, “ For the week?” That’s a sign that this might not fit my snobby standards for hotels. I book it, and we go around to the side door, to aid in sneaking in three, not two, pets, two of which are obviously well beyond the weight limit! Definitely not my type of place but it’s generally clean. Problem solved! We can let the pups sleep for the afternoon, and the cat can roam. The room smells like too much febreeze trying to cover up too much smoke. But everyone is settled for the next couple hours. I’m trying not to touch anything in the room and am leaving my shoes on!

Bexley, Kasha and Chava enjoying the Woodspring Suites for the afternoon!

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! It builds character! Suck it up buttercup! That’s what I would tell my kids in these situations. But I really am too old for building more character….Greg might say that perhaps I could use a bit less “character”.

Day two of the showings, one of the potential buyers would like one of us to be home during the showing. Ummmm, I quickly raise my hand to volunteer! Mostly because I can’t really see myself getting the dogs and cat back into the Woodspring Suites room on my own. Or was it so I didn’t have to venture back into the place? I’m sure you all can guess my primary motivation. Greg’s a trouper and not phased by the task of getting them in the room nor the lack of amenities at this beautiful 4 star resort!

This is just the beginning of the adventure. We haven’t even gotten to the part where we are living out of an RV…..
